LGBT History Month 2021 will certainly be one to remember for Lambeth Links. We held four fantastic events, speaking with over 200 people, talking with our Community on important topics, sharing personal stories of challenge but also triumph and forming those crucial links that will lay the foundation of what we at Lambeth Links have set out to do. And, we launched our podcast Lambeth Links Listens during LGBT History Month, so all in all quite a February!
We’ve also made our own piece of history - I’m delighted and genuinely proud to announce that we have been officially registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) with the Charity Commission! This is huge for us and of great significance. We wanted to ensure the legitimacy Lambeth Links and, more importantly, gain your trust. Becoming registered in this way means that we as trustees legally bound ensure we meet our objects:
The objects of Lambeth Links are:
(1) The promotion of equality and diversity for the public benefit in the London Borough of Lambeth by:
(a) the elimination of discrimination on the grounds of gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation;
(b) raising awareness in equality and diversity and the needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual and other marginalised sexual minorities and non-binary gender persons (LGBTQIA+) and the issues affecting their lives and their communities;
(c) promoting activities to foster understanding between people from diverse backgrounds and in particular those from LGBTQIA+ background; and
(d) cultivating a sentiment in favour of equality and diversity in particular through celebrating the diversity of the LGBTQIA+ community.
Whilst we were registered only recently, our work began over a year ago in getting us to this point. We have made links that I am sure will last and endure and our events for LGBT History Month show just how much will there is in our community. We will build on this for a better future for us.
Now, we will begin on our strategy and we look forward to sharing this with you soon and getting your input.
